What are Aircraft Spark Plugs, Oil Filters & More?

Aircraft spark plugs are responsible for igniting the fuel mixture found within the aircraft’s internal-combustion engine. With the help of magnetos, airplane spark plugs work to receive the “spark” from these magnetos to ignite and create electricity. For protection during flight, aircraft spark plugs are equipped with screw on terminals to ensure they do not slip off in flight. There are two spark plugs in per cylinder in aircraft engines.

Aircraft oil filters remove the pollutants from engine oil. When airplane oil filters are being used, oil should be changed every 50 hours. When no aircraft oil filter is being used, oil should be changed every 25 hours. Thus, the use of aircraft oil filters elongates the time needed between changing oil.
