What are Aircraft Prop Governors & Accumulators ?

Aircraft propeller governors are used on aircraft that rely on controllable pitch propellers to guide them through the air. In most basic terms, aircraft propeller governors are an RPM sensing device. By relying on the centrifugal force of flyweights, the governor will act to changes in system RPM by having engine oil released or directed into the propeller to get a change in the blade angle. This is turn will bring the system RPM to its original value.

Aircraft accumulators reduce pressure bumps, store a reserve of high pressure, maintain system pressure, and provide backup system pressure. Aircraft accumulators have four types: the weight loaded piston type, diaphragm type, spring type, and the hydropneumatic piston type. Some areas they provide backup in are: landing gear, APU starting, and emergency situations. They are also used as system dampers.
